Coconut's Development in an Integrated Way
A Breakthrough in developing Indonesia's coconut agribusiness has been made by Directorate general of Plantations, Ministry of Agriculture Affair of the Republic of Indonesia.
- To construct cooperation between coconut farmers and the processing units to yield multivarious of coconut products, such as coconut cooking oil, nata de coco, coco fiber etc.
- To improve the coconut product added value.
- To increase coconut productivity through an integrated diversification.
- To construct cooperation between coconut farmers and livestock society.
- To quicken the rejuvenation of coconut farmers by teaching them fermentation technology.
Effort to develop of this integrated coconut agribusiness require supports and a synergy with development program with private sector banking. Social institutions and governmental elements also expected to take part in this development.
Talking about coconut is more than just cropping and growing. Coconut, beside one of the important commodity in history of Indonesia, also grows tourism. Even in the middle of world's food crisis could become alternative of food source, not to mention source of pharmacy, environmental area, also as coastal buffer against impact of tsunami, abrasion, also building materials, house wares etc as well.
Coconut is typical crop of tropical and subtropical which have strategic value. This natural resource need to be strive exploiting, for the sake and for prosperity of coconut farmers, and need to be managed by all levels.
